Are You Satisfied With Your Labor Productivity Levels?

In any type of business, labor productivity rates are directly linked to profitability. Are your labor productivity rates good enough to generate high levels of profit? You shouldn't be satisfied with your current labor productivity because there is always some way to make things better and improve it. It's that little bit extra that makes the difference between a struggling business and one that is a resounding success.
It requires commitment as a business owner or manager to maximizing labor productivity in such a way that nobody is working harder. Working smarter is the answer but unfortunately there are many businesses that are failing to achieve even a reasonable level of labor productivity.
Decide how much profit you want to make. Calculate the levels of labor productivity to make that come true. Start looking at how you can lead your workforce to produce more by tapping into their knowledge and skill. To do this you need the right working environment and that is one of trust. If you were to ask your staff members for smarter and better ways of doing the jobs what would be the response?
You must do today what others won't, so you can achieve tomorrow what others can't. You are far better off thinking about how to create the right environment so that you can harness the collective knowledge, innovation and skill of the people you employ. One of the most intelligent ways to eclipse your competition is to improve your workplace labor productivity.
Whilst everybody is on the golf course complaining about the economy and the downturn in business, you could be planning to increase your labor productivity which in turn will boost your profits. There is no point in wishing things were better or imagining what it would be like in a thriving economy, you have to change what you're doing to win.
The more dissatisfied you are with the current situation, the more pain you are feeling, the more likely you are to do something different. Consider how you can introduce a way of measuring productivity that can be used to give feedback to the staff members. If you get stuck on this strategy, ask your staff how they could see it working, get ideas, establish a forum where these ideas can be discussed and installed.
The first stage of improving workplace productivity is to set up a system of feedback so that people know how they are getting along. The chances are in your workplace, your staff members don't get positive reinforcement in this fashion. A favorite question to ask each person on the shop floor is, "Are you having a good day today and how do you know?"
In a productive environment every single staff member, every supervisor, every manager and the business owner will be able to answer that question.
